There is something wonderfully comforting about The Marlow Murder Club. The murders can be nasty, the suspects can be deeply suspicious, and somebody usually has a secret they would rather keep buried. Yet somehow, the whole thing still feels like the perfect Sunday-night mystery.

Judith Potts, Suzie Harris, and Becks Starling are back in Marlow, and this time their amateur investigations are becoming a little more official. The trio has already proved that they can notice things the police miss. Now they are stepping into a new role as civilian advisors, which should make their relationship with the local police even more interesting.

I actually prefer this structure for The Marlow Murder Club. Two episodes per case means the mysteries don’t have to race toward the solution, while the six-episode season still feels manageable.
What Is Season 3 About?
The first mystery is particularly intriguing because it draws from Robert Thorogood’s The Queen of Poisons, the 2024 novel from the Marlow Murder Club series. Thorogood also co-writes the television adaptation, which should please fans who want the screen version to retain the personality of the books.
The story begins with the sudden death of the Mayor of Marlow during a heated town council meeting.
That setup is almost irresistible.
The doors are closed. The number of people present is limited. Everyone in the room has a potential connection to the victim. Suddenly, what should have been an unpleasant political meeting becomes a locked-room-style murder investigation.
Naturally, Judith, Suzie, and Becks cannot stay out of it.
The investigation takes them into local politics, blackmail, personal grudges, and secrets that several people would probably prefer to leave buried.
And this is only the first case.
Later in the season, the women investigate the murder of a famous local chef during a cookbook launch. It is exactly the sort of setting where everybody seems to have a motive, yet everyone also appears to have an alibi.
The final mystery moves the action to a remote manor house during a university reunion. Things become especially uncomfortable when Becks Starling finds herself under suspicion.
That could change the entire dynamic of the trio.
Usually, Judith, Suzie, and Becks are the ones poking around someone else’s secrets. Having one of their own become a murder suspect gives Season 3 a more personal edge.
Judith, Suzie and Becks Are Back
The biggest reason to watch remains the three central characters.
Samantha Bond returns as Judith Potts, the retired archaeologist and crossword compiler whose brain seems permanently tuned to finding patterns. Judith is still the intellectual engine of the group, but Season 3 also gives her some personal complications.
She attracts attention from two potential admirers, forcing Judith to consider a question that has nothing to do with murder: what does she actually want from her personal life?
Jo Martin returns as Suzie Harris, the energetic dog walker whose practical knowledge and sharp observations frequently prove invaluable. Suzie is also experimenting with the dating scene this season, leading to an amusing speed-dating storyline involving a surprisingly familiar face.
Then there is Cara Horgan as Becks Starling.
Becks remains the organized, polished member of the group and the vicar’s wife. But her life becomes considerably less comfortable when her wealthy and highly critical mother-in-law arrives for an extended visit.
Honestly, Becks dealing with a difficult family member while also potentially becoming involved in a murder investigation sounds like exactly the kind of chaos this show does best.
Natalie Dew also returns as DI Tanika Malik, whose relationship with the amateur investigators continues to evolve now that they have a more official civilian advisory role.
The guest cast gets a boost too, with Peter Davison appearing in the opening episode.

Going into Season 3 without that background won’t ruin the experience, but watching the earlier episodes makes the character moments land much better.
It is especially useful before seeing Becks placed in such a difficult position in the final mystery.
Why Season 3 Looks So Promising
What I like about The Marlow Murder Club is that it never seems desperate to prove how dark or brutal it can be.
There are murders, certainly. But the appeal comes from the puzzle, the characters, the setting, and the chemistry between the leads.
That puts it much closer to the tradition of classic British cozy mysteries than the increasingly grim crime dramas that dominate television.
The Marlow setting helps enormously. It is picturesque enough to make you want to visit, but there is always a strange feeling that somebody behind one of those perfectly respectable doors is hiding something.
The three leads are also a major part of the charm. Samantha Bond, Jo Martin, and Cara Horgan have the kind of chemistry that makes their scenes together feel effortless.
Season 3 appears to push that chemistry even further by giving the trio more personal problems while increasing their involvement with actual police investigations.
And I am particularly curious about Becks.
Putting one member of the murder club on the suspect list is a clever way to shake up a formula that could otherwise become predictable.

For me, the best thing about The Marlow Murder Club Season 3 is that it doesn’t appear to be reinventing the show just for the sake of it. The ingredients that made the first seasons so enjoyable are still here: a charming British setting, clever murders, strong female friendships, humor, and a group of amateur detectives who really should probably stay out of police business but never do.
This time, though, their relationship with the police is changing, and Becks getting caught up in one of the season’s biggest mysteries could give the story a surprisingly personal twist.
So, if you’re watching in the US, mark September 6, 2026 on the calendar. PBS is the easiest place to start, while PBS Passport is the better choice if you would rather solve all six episodes without waiting for the next Sunday.
And if you haven’t watched the first two seasons yet, this is a pretty good excuse to start from the beginning. Marlow has a lot of secrets left, and Judith, Suzie, and Becks clearly aren’t finished finding them.
