Steven Knight’s period drama has already established a distinctive identity. The first season created a surprisingly large production footprint, so Season 2 was never going to be something thrown together overnight. Period dramas require locations, costumes, elaborate sets, historical research and a huge amount of logistical planning before cameras even start rolling.

Production is expected to move into its next major phase during early 2027.

That means the months leading up to filming should be particularly interesting for fans. Location scouting, costume preparation, set construction and script development can reveal quite a bit about the direction of a new season, even when Netflix itself is being deliberately vague.

And honestly, that secrecy is probably a good thing.

One of the most enjoyable parts of House of Guinness is discovering how the characters’ personal problems collide with the much bigger historical forces around them. If Netflix gives away too much too early, some of that tension disappears.

The show also has a creator with an extremely busy schedule. Steven Knight isn’t exactly sitting around waiting for one production to finish before moving on to the next. His involvement means the writing and production process has to fit around a much larger slate of projects.

For viewers, that could mean a longer wait. But I’d rather see the writers take their time than watch Season 2 arrive quickly with a rushed storyline.

Where Could Season 2 Be Filmed?

One of the show’s cleverest production decisions was its approach to recreating 19th-century Dublin and other major locations.

Modern Dublin simply doesn’t look like Dublin in the 1860s anymore. That is the problem every historical production has to solve. Instead of forcing contemporary streets to pretend they belong to another century, the production has relied heavily on locations in England and Wales that can convincingly stand in for the period setting.

Liverpool is particularly useful because of its enormous collection of historic industrial architecture.

The city’s old warehouses, docks and brick buildings provide exactly the kind of environment the series needs for factories, shipping areas, working-class streets and commercial districts. Manchester and surrounding areas also offer plenty of period architecture without requiring filmmakers to digitally rebuild an entire city.

Stockport and Cheshire are expected to remain useful locations as well, particularly for streets, pubs and smaller residential settings.

Then there is Penrhyn Castle in Wales, which gives the Guinness family story a very different visual identity. The imposing estate works perfectly for a wealthy family whose private arguments are every bit as dangerous as the political battles happening outside.

If the production returns to these locations in 2027, fans may start getting their first real clues about the scale of Season 2 simply from what sets are being constructed.

House of Guinness Season 2 Cast: Who Could Return?

The cast situation is where things get especially interesting because the first season didn’t exactly leave every character in a comfortable position.

At the center of the story are the Guinness siblings, whose relationships were already complicated before politics, money and their father’s wishes started pushing them further apart.

Anthony Boyle as Arthur Guinness should remain one of the key figures moving forward. Arthur’s position makes him far too important to the larger political and family story for the series to simply abandon him. Louis Partridge as Edward Guinness is equally important. Edward represents a very different approach to the family’s future, with his focus on business, efficiency and the brewery itself creating another source of friction inside the family.

There is one obvious reason fans shouldn’t immediately assume that the major Guinness figures are dead: historical reality gives the writers a fairly clear timeline to work with.

Arthur Guinness, for example, lived for decades beyond the period covered by the early story. That doesn’t automatically mean the television version of events will follow history perfectly, but it certainly makes a permanent exit less likely.

And this is where the show gets interesting.

Edward’s storyline could move in another direction.

His determination to modernize and expand the brewery has obvious financial benefits, but industrial progress comes with consequences. More production, more workers and more commercial influence mean more opportunities for conflict. The business is becoming too large to separate from politics.

And then there is the family itself.

That’s still the part I find most compelling.

The Guinness siblings don’t simply disagree about business. They have fundamentally different ideas about what their family should become. Money gives them freedom, but it also traps them inside expectations created long before they were old enough to challenge them.

Could New York Become More Important?

Another storyline worth watching is the expansion beyond Ireland.

The first season establishes a world where the Guinness name is already becoming much bigger than one brewery or one city. New York gives the series an opportunity to show how the family’s influence spreads internationally.

A stronger American storyline could also change the tone of the show.

Instead of constantly keeping the drama inside the Guinness estate and Dublin’s political world, the writers could start showing the machinery of the business on a much larger scale. Trade, immigration, money and international competition could all become part of the story.

That would make sense if Steven Knight really intends House of Guinness to become a multi-generational saga rather than a short historical miniseries.

When Will House of Guinness Season 2 Be Released on Netflix?

This is where expectations need to be realistic.

If cameras begin rolling in early 2027, filming alone could take several months. After that comes editing, sound work, visual effects, music, color grading and all the other post-production work required for a large period drama.

A late 2027 release is possible, but an early 2028 Netflix premiere feels like the safer expectation based on the likely production schedule.

Of course, Netflix can always move things around. Production delays happen. Post-production takes longer than expected. Schedules change.

So I’d treat the release window as an estimate rather than a promise.

Why Season 2 Could Be Even Better

The first season had to introduce the family, establish the historical setting and explain why these people were worth following in the first place.

Season 2 doesn’t have that problem.

The audience already knows who Arthur is. We know Edward’s ambitions. We understand the tensions surrounding the family fortune. We have already seen how quickly business disagreements can become personal.

That gives the writers room to go harder.

The best version of Season 2 would spend less time explaining the Guinness world and more time letting the characters tear it apart.

That’s what I’m hoping for, anyway.

Give us more political intrigue. More uncomfortable family meetings. More of Sean Rafferty’s complicated position within the brewery. Let Arthur and Edward’s competing visions actually collide instead of constantly circling each other.

And please don’t make the story too clean.

The appeal of House of Guinness is that nobody feels completely safe or completely innocent. Wealth doesn’t make these characters happy. Power doesn’t make them secure. Every advantage seems to create another problem.

If the 2027 production schedule stays on course, fans could finally get another look at this dysfunctional brewing dynasty before too long. The exact Netflix premiere date remains uncertain, but the direction is becoming clearer.

For now, House of Guinness Season 2 looks set to continue the story in 2027 production, with a late-2027 or early-2028 release window the most plausible target. And after that finale, I’m more than ready to see what happens next.
